Week 1 was very quiet as the river was frozen with grue coming down.
Week 3 proved fruitless as well.
Week 4, the start of March, was when Wester Elchies began to catch fish, Mr Lewis caught the first fish of the season a 10lb hen fish from the Brock. All 5 fish caught this week were returned.
Week 5 Jack Fryer kept the total ticking over with a nice 14lb hen fish from the Boat Pool, this was also returned.
Week 6 Was the best week of the season so far, Sandy Stewart had the best fish at 18lb from Delene, this was almost matched by Alex Ritchie landing a nice 16lber from in front of Sam’s house. Again all fish were returned.
Week 7 With the water temperature creeping above 40F 6 fish were caught, only one was kept as it failed to recover from being deeply hooked.
Week 8 Brought March to an end and proved to be the best March since the syndicate took over.
TV Star Jasper Clutterbuck managed to catch a fish without the TV cameras being present.
Week 9 Was a red letter week for Lord Rockley’s family with his Grandson getting his first ever salmon of 16lb from Pol Ma Cree beeting his father by 4lbs from the same pool.
Week 10 Saw four fish being landed
Week 11 Saw a similer pattern with again four fish being landed.
Week 12 Again four fish were landed with Mr Garnett getting 50% of the catch.
Week 13 New owners Fletcher, Cole and Jack started their week with a bang with four fish on Monday. Unfortunately they could not keep up hectic pace and finished the week with five. The end of the week was poor with gale force winds and a river that rose and fell on a daily basis.
Week 14 was fished again by relatively new proprietors, I think this is Jack and Harry Fryer’s second year but certainly it is the first year for the Muir party. It was the first week of the season when the catch reached double figures. Top rod was Jonathon Muir who out fished his father, I believe this was the first time this has happened.
Week 15. Another excellent week, though not as productive as Kinermony who had an excellent week in the Rhynd. There were a couple of big fish caught in the Boat Pool with weights esimated at 18 and 19lb.
Week 16,
Speyside was more like Spain with cloudless skies and temperatures in the mid twenties, certainly not good salmon fishing conditions.
Week17.
It was a hard week on the river, temperatures dropped by 20C from 26C on Monday to a coolish 6 C on Friday. The total of eleven was not bad considering a couple of newcomers to the sport were learning the ropes.
If anyone is interested the total for the season is 84 this season compared with 108 for the same time last year.
Week 18
I will not attempt any complicated maths this week, if anyone is interested they will have to total up the figures themselves.
20 fish were caught, which is the best for this party since they bought in 14 years ago, the 1st year they had nineteen and has been in decline ever since, either there are more fish on the go or they are beginning to learn the beat!
Week 19
The river rose on the Monday and after a long dry spell was quite coloured. Conditions did not really suit Wester Elchies.
Week 20.
The sun beat down all week, Sam tells me that he recored a water temperature of 69f which I believe is close to 20c. Allowing for these difficult conditions 13 fish was a repectable total.
Week21
Thirteen appears to be the total to beat and again it proved an unlucky sticking point.
Week 22.
Water levels were the problem again this week with over a day being lost to high coloured water.
Week 23.
Another week stuck on the dreaded 13 and yet another week with a day lost to high coloured water.
Week 24
There were 16 salmon landed, although again some days were lost to high coloured water. Sam also tells me three seatrout were taken in the evenings.
Week25
Chairman Anthony Tinsley had a relaxesd week with his extended family, his nephew Will Agnew managed to loose the first salmon he has managed to hook. In line with recent weeks 1 day was lost to high water.
Week 26
The Henderson party seem to be learning their way around Wester Elchies and managed 11 fish for the week.
Week27.
From last years dizzy heights of 40 this year was a disappointment with only 11 fish landed, top rod was again Ruth Hosker, one of these years she will let her husband and friends discover where Pol Shuan is.
The season finished with 248, 209 of which were released which I believe is about 84%
Week 2 was equally quiet as the snow melted and the river was big and coloured.
